Garden Hotel Suzhou occupies an historic walled garden compound covering 48,000 square metres of traditional Suzhou gardens. The luxury hotel offers 235 rooms, including presidential suites, deluxe suites, standard suites and standard rooms, housed in elegantly styled heritage villas and contemporary wings. A range of restaurants and lounges offer the finest Chinese and western cuisines.

Garden Hotel Suzhou was originally the residence of Jiang Jieshi. Jiang's second wife, Ms Yao Yecheng, and son, Jiang Weiguo, lived here in the early 1900s. Also in the compound was the villa of He Ya'nong, whose second daughter and son-in-law were the famous scientists He Zehui and Qian Sanqiang. In 1952, Garden Hotel became an official state guesthouse for Communist Party leaders, foreign dignitaries and privileged travelers.

Garden Hotel Suzhou's guest list is distinguished indeed, including former Presidents and Prime Ministers Jimmy Carter, Margaret Thatcher, Kaifu Toshiki and Ong Teng Cheong, plus leaders from Belgium, Holland, Finland, Iceland, Columbia, Chili, New Zealand, Tanzania, Mali, Seychelles, Marshall Island, Cote d'Ivoire, Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar, India, Nepal and South Korea. Chinese state leaders to have been received here include Jiang Zemin, Li Peng, Zhu Rongji, Li Ruihuan, Li Lanqing,Hu Jintao, Zhu De, Liu Shaoqi, Zhou Enlai, Chen Yun, Chen Yi, Deng Xiaoping, Ye Jianying, Hu Yaobang, Wan Li, Yang Shangkun, Qiao Shi, Yao Yilin, Song Ping, Zhao Ziyang and Hua Guofeng.
